Kathy Goei, RN, MSN, PhD
Associate Professor
Dr. Kathleen (Kathy) Goei first joined the UIW family in 2008 as a faculty member in the School of Nursing and Health Professions where she taught physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology to nursing students at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as undergraduate Nuclear Medicine Technology students. In the Spring of 2013 she transitioned to the School of Rehabilitation Sciences as an adjunct faculty member and joined the faculty full-time in January of 2020.
Kathy’s career began in New York as a registered nurse (RN) in 1984. She held a variety of clinical and research positions over the next two decades as she and her military husband moved frequently to accommodate his Army commitments. During this time she completed a Master’s degree in nursing and a PhD in Physiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Throughout her formal education, Kathy had the opportunity to teach in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings, including staff development, vocational nursing and at the college/university level. Her passion is to help students develop a sense of enthusiasm about science and appreciate its application to clinical practice. Research interests include nutrition and aging, physical activity and wellness, interprofessional practice and physiologic responses to stress. Over the years Kathy has been active in the community on both a personal and professional level and was honored for her contributions by San Antonio’s Medical Center Rotary Club with the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing in 2012.
At the SRS, Kathy teaches primarily in the second and third year Foundational Sciences thread but also is involved in the Physical Therapy Reasoning and Patient Client Management threads.
