Susan Smith, PT, DPT, PCS
Associate Professor
Susan N. Smith came to the University of the Incarnate Word in 2012 as a founding faculty member. A Las Vegas, Nevada native, Susan obtained a BSc in Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2000 and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2004. After graduation, Susan moved to rural Mississippi working primarily in the areas of pediatrics, neurology, and orthopedics in both an outpatient hospital and school-based setting. In 2010 Susan became a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatrics. Susan is currently pursuing a PhD in Education with a specialization in curriculum and teaching.
Susan is the Texas State Representative for the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy and an active member of the Academic and Clinical Educators Special Interest Group of the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy. Susan is a clinical director for the Special Olympics FUNfitness program and an advocate for both children and adults with developmental disabilities. Susan is actively researching infant powered mobility and the benefits of babywearing for children with special needs.
Susan is the proud mother of a self-proclaimed super hero, Jackson, is a foster care provider for Bexar County, and is owned by two Scottish Terriers.
