Curriculum Features Problem-Based Learning

Instead of simply memorizing facts, students are taught the process of clinical reasoning by using patient case studies. This provides the framework to learn concepts, ask questions, research possible answers and determine the relevance of that information.

Global Connections

Students can learn from, with and about each other through immersive practical experiences in diverse environments such as participating in an interprofessional mission trip in Oaxaca, Mexico; assisting with clinical education in a rehabilitation center in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; working with IPETH physical therapy students in Puebla, Mexico; or practicing in various clinical sites in Italy.

Ricardo Cerda Jr

Erin Michelle Cumbest, DPT Memorial Scholarship announced

Congratulations to Ricardo Cerda, Jr., the 2023 Recipient of the Erin Michelle Cumbest DPT Memorial Scholarship. Ricardo is from Edinburg, Texas, where he attended Edinburg North High School. Ricardo started his college career at South Texas College majoring in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Personal Community Health. He transferred to the University of the Incarnate Word where he graduated with a degree in Rehabilitation Science with a minor in Biology. Ricardo has a desire to serve the San Antonio or Rio Grande Valley areas. Ricardo chose to pursue physical therapy because of the unique rewards and beneficial results that exercise programs offer the patients and clients he plans to serve.

The Erin Michelle Cumbest DPT Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of Erin Cumbest, a 2019 graduate of the UIW DPT program. Erin was an excellent student, a gifted athlete and had a passion for serving others.
